Milford Lions Club
The Milford Lions Club will hold a fundraiser at Ike’s Place Bar and Grill at 416 Goldenbelt Blvd. for donations to youth and community projects Saturday from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. and then again the same day from 4:30 until 7:30 p.m. Participants are also welcome to bring used eyeglasses to donate, if they so choose.
There will be a Sons of the American Legion Dinner from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Feb. 2 at 201 E. 4th St. The menu includes smothered pork chops, mashed potatoes and gravy, a vegetable and dinner roll and dessert. The cost is $10 per person. The dinner is open to everyone but an RSVP is required by Jan. 31. To RSVP, call 785-238-2432.
JCHS Class of 1960 Gathering
The JCHS Class of 1960 will meet Feb. 3, at Munson Prime at 11:30 a.m, for there just for fun luncheon quarterly lunch. Classmates, spouses and friends of the class are welcome.
Faith Lutheran Church will hold its annual crazy bowl soup supper Feb. 3 from 4 until 6 p.m. at the church on the corner of McFarland and Eisenhower Streets. The cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children. Proceeds will be donated to the Open Door and the Geary County Food Pantry. Donations of canned goods are also welcome.
St. Tabitha Chapter #75 St. Tabitha Chapter #75 is sponsoring a Sweetheart Breakfast Feb. 3 The menu includes a choice of sausages or bacon, choice of biscuit, gravy or grits, eggs cook to order, hash brown and milk, orange juice or coffee (dine-in only). This fundraising event will be held at Acacia Lodge #91, 1024 N Price St. in Junction City. This event will be from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Donation fee is $7. The Junction City High School Chamber Choir and Chamber Orchestra are coming together at the historic C.L. Hoover Opera House to perform the beloved Requiem by Gabriel Faure in a free concert Feb. 4 at 3 p.m. Come hear these incredibly talented students under the direction of David Bernard-Stevens, orchestra director at JCHS. Michael Brown and Annika Stucky, vocal music directors at JCHS, will perform with their students as soloists.
Tax Preparation help
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program will provide free tax preparation services for individuals and/or households with income of less than $54,000 Jan. 29 through April 16 Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at the United Way office 139 E. Volunteer tax assistors prepare Federal Income Tax Returns and Kansas State Returns. To file taxes electrically on a married-filing-joint tax return, both spouses must be present to sign required forms.
A visually-impaired person group meets at 1 p.m. on the second Tuesday of every month at the Geary County Senior Center, located at 1107 S. Spring Valley Road. This group offers information about available assistive technology, services, and offers a chance for people to share stories with others. Mandy Smith, Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist from the Resource Center for Independent Living, will host the meetings.
