Geary County Sheriff’s Department deputies are searching for two suspects in relation to an alleged aggravated assault that occurred Monday.
Deputies responded to mile marker 146 on U.S. Highway 77 Monday at 3:15 a.m. in reference to a man in the roadway. They made contact with the man, who was asking for help.
After an investigation, it was determined that the man was on State Lake Road with one of the suspects when he was ordered out of his car at gunpoint by a second suspect. The victim — who has not been identified by law enforcement — was threatened by one suspect with a knife and by the other with a gun. He was battered and restrained against his will. The two suspects — identified by deputies as Michael Leroy Whitaker, of Topeka, and Jason Robert Snider, of Chapman — left the scene. The victim ran to U.S. Highway 77, where he was able to receive assistance.
The victim suffered minor injuries, and was treated and released at the scene by the Junction City Fire Department and EMS, according to the sheriff’s department.
Deputies are investigating the case as an aggravated assault with the possibility of additional charges coming. Deputies are in the process of attempting to locate Whitaker and Snider.
UPDATE: Deputies located Whitaker and Snider Monday night in located in Shawnee County. Both men are currently incarcerated in the Geary County Detention Center and awaiting their first court appearances.
