Deputies from the Geary County Sheriff’s Department are investigating a shooting that occurred Wednesday afternoon.

Deputies responded to 3407 Liberty Hall Road Wednesday at 2:02 p.m. after receiving a report that a man in his early 20s had suffered a gunshot wound to the leg.

The man was shot by a man with a dark complexion wearing blue jeans and a white shirt, according to a the sheriff’s department. Law enforcement officers from the sheriff’s department and the Junction City Police Department set up a perimeter and searched the area on foot. They also utilized canines while the Kansas Highway Patrol provided an overview of the area from one of its aerial units. Spring Valley Elementary was placed on a brief lockdown until it was determined there was no threat to the public.  

The victim was transported to Geary Community Hospital, and is in stable condition, according to the sheriff’s department. His wound is not considered to be life-threatening. His name has not been released.

The case is still under investigation, but there has been no evidence uncovered to suggest there is any threat to the safety of the community, according to the sheriff’s department.
