The Junction City High School music program has done exceptionally well this year. The choir was selected to perform at the Kansas Music Educators Association’s (KMEA) annual conference and four students were chosen to sing in the state choir. The students’ spring musical presentation of “Shrek the Musical” was sold out every single night of the performance.
Now, the Chamber Choir has received another honor.
JCHS Music Director Michael Brown addressed the Board of Education recently about the Chamber Choir’s upcoming trip to New York City in April 2018. The choir will perform at the Lincoln Center in New York City under the direction of renowned conductor Eric Whitaker, Brown said at the April BOE meeting.
“He’s the LeBron James of choral music,” Brown said of Whitaker.
In his five years as an instructor at JCHS, Brown has taken his students on more than one trip such as this.
He took JCHS students to New York to sing in his second year as a teacher and two years ago he took his students to Chicago to perform.
They will spend about five days in New York City.
