John Lamb

Junction City will soon have a new Chief of Police.

John Lamb of the Jacksonville, Florida Sheriff’s Department will soon lead the Junction City Police Department. A start date for Chief Lamb has not yet been released by the JCPD, but he’s expected to be on the job "in the very near future."

Lamb replaces Chief Dan Breci, who retired in September, and Interim Chief Kirt Nichols, who has filled the position since Breci left the department.

As incoming police chief, Lamb will take charge of community policing services, public safety outreach programs, and providing an important perspective as part the city’s management team.

He comes to Junction City after 26 years serving with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Department. Lamb, a native of Jacksonville, joined the sheriff's department in 1993. He served most recently as Police Lieutenant over the Patrol and Community Affairs Unit as well as an Assistant Chief assigned to Patrol and Enforcement and Logistics and Support Services.

He oversaw roughly 150 sworn and civilian employees during his time in Jacksonville.

Upon learning he had been selected to become Junction City’s police chief, Lamb reportedly said he was "very excited to join a team of talented professionals in the Junction City Police Department who share a commitment to public service and excellence in serving the City of Junction City,” according to a press release sent out Wednesday.

“It has been a long term goal to serve as police chief in a community like Junction City that is committed to its police department,” Lamb said. "I truly look forward to both the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.”

He has been married to his wife, Nanette Cruz, for 28 years and they have four children. Lamb has a passion for community policing, transparency in law enforcement, and the development of law enforcement leaders though community engagement and interaction.

John believes "God has given him this opportunity to continue his commitment as a service minded man,” according to information provided by the JCPD. "He truly believes that the law enforcement profession is a most honorable profession and he is proud of the many men and women who join with him in fighting the true evils of our time."

City Manager Allen Dinkel believes Lamb will be a good fit for the JCPD.

“I am confident that John Lamb is a wonderful match for the City of Junction City,” he said. "His deep understanding of the mechanics of police management and community engagement, coupled with his proven leadership, will be important assets for our city for years to come.”
