Two wrecks took place Friday on I-70 in Geary County, at least one of which was rain-related. Though there were injuries associated with each wreck and resulted in individuals being transported from the scene of each wreck, none of the injuries were listed as severe.
The first took place around 11:18 a.m., when a semi truck driven by Maciej Ratajczak of Illinois hydroplaned. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred when a vehicle in front of the semi truck slowed down and Ratajczak changed lanes in an attempt to slow down as well. At this time, the truck hydroplaned, went into the median and then overturned after the driver overcorrected.
Ratajczak was transported to Geary Community Hospital with suspected minor injuries. He was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, according to the KHP.
Eastbound traffic from I-70 had to be re-routed down Golden Belt Boulevard while the wreck was cleaned up.
Later that day, just before 3 p.m., another water-related wreck occurred in roughly the same spot on I-70.
A Kia Forte driven by Delphia Lou Gallaher of Nevada was struck from behind by a box truck driven by Austin L. Sanderson of Concordia. Galloper’s vehicle went into the median. She was taken to GCH on suspicion of minor injuries.
Sanderson was uninjured in the wreck. Both he and Gallaher were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.
