SG (Ret.) Willie Earl Hunter

SG (Retired) Willie Earl Hunter, 78, of Junction City, died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2019 at his home. Willie was born Nov. 21, 1940 in Ft. Worth, Texas, the son of Eddie and Teasie Mae (English) Hunter. Willie attended schools in Ft. Worth and graduated from high school there.  

Willie joined the U.S. Army in Sept. 1961 and spent over 23 years in the military, retiring as a Master Sergeant in October, 1984.  Willie served two tours of duty during the Vietnam War.  He received several medals, including the Vietnam Service Medal with a Silver Star, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, a Meritorious Service Medal.

After his Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Army, Willie worked for many years in Personnel Management on Ft. Riley.

Willie was a Life Member of the William Leroy Talbot, Post #8773 of the V.F.W. in Junction City.

Willie married Patricia Johnson in Brooklyn, New York. They were later divorced, but remained close friends.

Survivors include:  two sons, Damon Hunter and his wife, Julie, of Fife, Washington, and Tyrone A. Hunter, of Aurora, Colorado;  a daughter, Yavette Hill, of Olathe;  his ex-wife, Patricia Hunter, of  Junction City;  and five grandchildren. Willie was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Eddie Hunter.

A memorial inurnment service will be 1 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 21, 2019 at the Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery at Ft. Riley, Manhattan. Military Honors will be presented by the U.S. Army Honor Guard from Ft. Riley.

Memorial contributions, in Willie’s name, may be given to the Friends of Animals, sent in care of Johnson Funeral Home, 203 N. Washington, Junction City, KS  66441.

Johnson Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
