1970 Class 4A State Champions honored

A private reception was held Friday night in the Junction City High School cafeteria honoring the members of the 1970 Class 4A State Basketball Champions. The team led by coach Ralph Rindt, Bob Smalley and Bill Hill finished the 1969-70 season 19-5. Many of the athletes were also part of the 1969 State Championship in track, 1969 State Championship in football, the 1970 State runner-up in track and field and the 1971 State Championship in track and field. The 1970 team included: Charles Johnson, Doug Stark, Bob Burney, Les Chaves, Ron Anderson, Lanard Reid, Steve Wensel, Steve Heldstab, Mike Stithem, Fred Starks, Allan Hart, Steve Self, Dave Cowan, John Higgins, Steve Brown, Randy Heldstab, Erich Sands, Mark Westfall, Armin Mock, James Canaday, Delbert Davis, Steve Cowan, Darcy Frownfelter, Vern Steffens, John Axel, Eugene Rainwater and managers Steve Allen and Tom Miller. During halftime of the boys game, the team members present were introduced to the Blue Jays fans and were each presented a JCHS coin by activities director Matt Westerhaus.
