LIBERTY, Mo. — The Junction City Brigade scored 12 runs in the first four innings and held Liberty to just four hits as the Brigade cruised to a 12-1 victory Tuesday.
As of Wednesday morning, the Brigade remained 1/2 game behind the Topeka Golden Giants in the Mid-Plains League West Division.
Junction City scored three runs in the first inning on a Carson Sader sacrifice fly, an Aaron Samaniego single, and a Joey Winkler grounder. In the second, Blake Burrows hit his second single of the game, this time scoring Trae McDaniel. In the third, the Brigade’s first two runs scored on an error and a wild pitch. Then, Brett Fields tripled, scoring Winkler and McDaniel.
In the fourth, the Brigade scored four more — one on an error, two on a Winkler single and the fourth on a Fields single.
All the while, starting pitcher Josh Mapel powered through the Liberty lineup. He allowed just one run while pitching a five-inning complete game. He walked three and struck out seven.
For the game, four players — Jordan, Samaniego, McDaniel and Fields — each had two hits. Samaniego scored three runs, and Fields drove in three.
The Brigade were at home for their final home game of the season Wednesday. They’re on the road Thursday when they travel to Baldwin City.
