Chapman High School’s track and field team traveled to Abilene High School Friday to compete in the Kansas State High School Activities Association 4A regional meet, and many athletes be advancing to state. The top four finishers in events all qualified.
Taylor Briggs set a school record in the 1,600-meter run, finishing in first place with a time of 5:06.9. Briggs also won first place in the 3,200-meter with a time of 11:36.93. McKenna Kirkpatrick set another new Lady Irish school record Friday when she finished first in the triple jump with a distance of 36’11.” She also placed third in the long jump at 16’2.5.”
Aaron Modrow swept three events, finishing first in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 10:03.36, the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:34.53 and the 800-meter run with a time of 2:01.62.
Peyton Suther placed first in javelin at 129’0” and second in high jump at 5’0.”
Mitchell Tiller took the No. 1 spot in the pole vault with a jump of 12’6.”
The 4x800 team (consisting of Eli Winder, Brandon Colston, Shaun Blocker and Aaron Modrow) claimed first place timing in at 8:24.55.
The 4x400 team of Blake Vercher, Brandon Colston, Izek Jackson and Shaun Blocker took first place with a time of 3:25.44.
Macy Bliss finished second in discus with a 101’6” and third in shot put at 31’7.5.”
Shaun Blocker was second in the 400-meter run, timing in at 51.04.
Dalton Harvey was third in discus with a 135’6” and Kel Stroud was fourth with a 131’11.”
Blake Vercher was third in the long jump, measuring in at 21’ 1.”
Shannon Anderson was fourth in the 300-meter hurdles at 52.01.
On the day, the boys as a team finished in third place while the girls took fourth.
