Junction City Athletic Director Matthew Westerhaus has compiled a list of summer opportunities for Junction City student athletes. 

There will be free strength and conditioning opportunities at the JCHS weight room May 29-30. From 7-8 a.m, there will be an Intro to Strength and Conditioning program for those in ninth grade, beginners and new JCHS students.

Leading off with boys basketball, summer workouts will be held May 28-July 15. In that time frame, they will be held on Monday; Wednesday and Fridays from 9-10:30 a.m. The high school camp will be June 10-14 at Junction City High School. For more information, contact coach Nick Perez.

For girls basketball, summer workouts will be June 3-July 18 for grades 9-12. These will be held on Monday and Thursday each week from 7-8:30 a.m. Students in grades 6-8 will follow from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Then students in grades 3-5 will go from 9-10:00 a.m. only in June. For cross country boys and girls, summer running will be held June 3-5 from 7:30-8:30 a.m. This will switch to Monday, Wednesday and Thursday June 10- 27. Then, it will transition to Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from July 8-Aug. 2. This will take place at Junction City High School, with students meeting at the northeast corner of the parking lot. Cheer summer practice will be held on June 3, 7, 11, 14, 18, 21, 25, 28, July 2, and will resume on Aug. 1, 6 and 8. These sessions will be held at the main gym at the Freshman Success Academy from 6:15-8:15 a.m. 

For those interested in dance, summer practice will be held May 29-30. And then June 3, 5, 6, 10, 12, 13, 17, 19, 20 and 24. These will be held in the Freshman Success Academy from 6:30-8:30 a.m. Camp will be held June 25-28. 

For football, camp for students in grades 9-12 will be held May 28-30 at Junction City High School from 8-11 a.m. Camp for students in grades 7-8 will be June 10-13 at Junction City High School from 9-11:30 a.m. The price for that camp will be $20. Camp for students in grades 3-6 will also be $20 July 8-11 at Junction City High School from 9-11:30 a.m. For more information, contact coach Randall Zimmerman. 

For soccer, summer workouts will be every Tuesday during the June 4-Aug. 1 time frame at Junction City High School. On Wednesday and Thursday during that time frame, it will be held from 8:30-11:30 a.m. Boys will go from 8:30-10:30 a.m., and girls will go from 9:30-11:30 a.m at Junction City High School. Camp for students in grades 9-12 will be $20 at Fegan Field from 8-10 a.m. July 15-19. Camp for students in grades 5-8 will be July 9-13 from 5-6:30 p.m. at Fegan Field for $20. Swimming opportunities have yet to be determined, and coach Winnie can be contacted for more information on that. 

For tennis players, summer camps and workouts will be at Junction City High School Monday through Friday from June 3 to Aug. 2. These will be at 7:30 a.m. until noon at the elementary, middle and high schools. Coach Matthew Micheel can be reached for more information.

Volleyball summer workouts will be June 3-July 18 for students in grades 9-12. These will be held on Tuesay and Wednesday from 7-8:30 a.m. Students in grades 6-8 will follow from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Then, students in grades 3-5 will be Tuesday and Wednesday from 9-10:00 a.m. in June. The wrestling program will be hosting some camps. Camp for students in grades 9-12 will be June 26-28 at Junction City High School for $25 from 10 a.m. to noon. Then camp for students in grades 1-8 will be June 26-28 at Junction City High School for $25 from 1-2:30 p.m. Coach Tyler Gonzales can be reached for any additional information.
