After the first day of events at the KSHSAA track meet in Wichita, several Blue Jays are set up nicely to compete for a state title during Day 2. During the preliminaries Friday, Keiana Newman qualified for both the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles finals, finishing first and second in her preliminary heats, respectively. Jamarcus Plato also qualified for the finals in two events, finishing second in the 110-meter hurdle preliminaries, and third in the 300-meter hurdle preliminaries. Ian Sanchez finished seventh in the 200-meter dash and has qualified for the finals. Tiara Smith finished 10th in the girls 400-meter dash preliminaries, and Leslie Etheridge finished 14th in the boys 400-meter dash. In the field events, Xavier Cason finished fourth in boys shot put, and Antonio Porter finished 14th in boys triple jump. In team events, one boys and one girls team qualified for the finals today - the boys 4x100-meter relay and the girls 4x400-meter relays. The boys squad finished fourth, while the girls squad finished seventh. Also competing, but not qualifying, was the girls 4x100-meter relay and the boys 4x400-meter relay.
