Junction City High School baseball senior Easton Rindt hits the ball against Seaman High School Tuesday night at Rathert Stadium in Junction City.

TOPEKA — After splitting a home doubleheader with Seaman High School Tuesday, the Junction City High School baseball team (10-6) traveled to Topeka Friday to face Washburn Rural High School in a doubleheader.

Junction City suffered its second road sweep of the season, as it fell by scores of 7-8 and 14-15.

In the top of the first inning in the first game, senior Dre Addison led Junction City off with a single. Sophomore Jojo Nieves drew a walk. Junior Thane McDaniel struck out before senior Easton Rindt flew out. Freshman Russell Wilkey popped out to end the frame.

Senior Ty Clark got the start on the mound for Junction City in the first game.

With one out in the bottom of the first, Washburn Rural reached first on an error. Washburn Rural scored on an RBI triple. It scored again on a sacrifice groundout.  Clark struck out a batter to end the inning.

Senior Ashton Wiegand grounded out to start the second inning. Junior Baylor Wilkey drew a walk. Clark reached first on an error. Junction City hit into two straight outs to end the frame.

Clark induced a groundout to start the bottom of the second. Washburn Rural hit a single before Clark induced a fly out. Clark walked a batter before the inning ended on a fly out.

With one out in the top of the third inning, Rindt hit a single. Freshman Andrew Khoury drew a walk. Russell Wilkey scored Rindt on a sacrifice groundout. Wiegand reached first on an error. Baylor Wilkey reached first on an error that scored Russell Wilkey. 

The game was tied 2-2 after the top of the third. 

Clark allowed a single to open the bottom of the third inning. Washburn Rural scored on an RBI double. Clark induced a groundout before Washburn Rural scored on a sacrifice fly.

Washburn Rural held a 2-4 lead after three innings.

Addison reached first on an error to start the fourth inning. With one out, McDaniel was hit by a pitch. Rindt scored Addison with an RBI single. Junction City hit into two straight outs to end the frame.

With one out in the bottom of the fourth, Clark allowed two straight singles. Clark induced a groundout before walking a batter. Washburn Rural scored again on an RBI single. 

Junction City suffered three outs in its first four at-bats to start the fifth inning.

Clark allowed a double and a single to start the bottom of the fifth. Washburn Rural scored on an RBI single. With one out, Washburn Rural scored on a sacrifice fly. 

With two outs in the top of the sixth inning, Rindt hit a single. Khoury grounded out to end the frame.

Clark induced an out in the bottom of the sixth before allowing a double. With one out, Washburn Rural scored another run on an RBI single. 

Junction City trailed Washburn Rural 3-8 heading into the seventh inning.

Russell Wilkey and Wiegand drew two straight walks to open the seventh inning. Baylor Wilkey scored a run with an RBI double. With two outs, Nieves scored a run with an RBI single. McDaniel scored another run with an RBI single. Rindt added another run with an RBI single. Khoury grounded out to end Junction City's rally.

Junction City lost by a score of 7-8.

Through six innings of work, Clark allowed eight runs on 13 hits while only recording one strikeout. 

Junction City finished with eight hits in the first game. Rindt led his team with four hits and two RBIs. Baylor Wilkey, McDaniel, and Nieves all recorded one hit and one RBI apiece. Addison finished with one hit. Russell Wilkey recorded one RBI.

In the top of the first inning in the second game, Wiegand led Junction City off with a single. Nieves drew a walk. McDaniel reached first on an error. Rindt scored a run with a sacrifice groundout. Khoury scored another run with a sacrifice groundout.

Junior Jaden Kell got the start on the mound in the second game.

Kell hit his first batter with a pitch. He induced a double play before walking a batter and allowing a single. Kell induced a fly out to end the inning.

Clark hit a single to start the second inning. Baylor Wilkey drew a walk. Addison struck out before Baylor Wilkey was caught stealing second. Wiegand grounded out to end the frame.

With one out in the bottom of the second, Kell allowed a single. Washburn Rural scored two runs on back-to-back RBI singles. It took the lead on an RBI double. 

Nieves drew a walk to start the third inning. Junction City hit into two straight outs. Khoury hit a single. Russell Wilkey scored two runs on an RBI single to give Junction City the lead. 

Kell forced three straight outs to end the third inning.

With one out in the top of the fourth inning, Addison was hit by a pitch. Wiegand and Nieves hit back-to-back singles. McDaniel scored Addison on a sacrifice fly. Rindt was intentionally walked before Khoury flew out to end the frame.

Kell allowed a single to lead off the bottom of the fourth. With two outs, Washburn Rural scored two runs on an RBI double.

Junction City and Washburn Rural were tied 5-5 after four innings.

Russell Wilkey and Clark hit back-to-back singles to lead off the top of the fifth inning. Russell Wilkey scored on a wild pitch before Baylor Wilkey drew a walk. Addison struck out before Wiegand scored Clark on a sacrifice fly. 

Kell walked his first batter in the bottom of the fifth. Kell induced a double play before walking a batter. He struck out a batter to end the inning.

McDaniel drew a walk to open the sixth inning. Rindt was hit by a pitch before Khoury hit a single. Russell Wilkey drew a bases-loaded walk to score a run. Clark scored a run on a sacrifice fly. Baylor Wilkey drew a walk before Junction City suffered two straight outs to end the frame.

Junction City led Washburn Rural 9-5 after the top of the sixth.

Kell allowed two straight singles to open the bottom of the sixth. Washburn Rural scored on a sacrifice fly. It added one more on an RBI double. Washburn Rural tied the game on an RBI double before taking the lead on an RBI single. Senior Dru Butler replaced Kell on the mound before Washburn Rural scored another run on an error. Washburn Rural added another run before the inning ended.

Junction City trailed Washburn Rural 9-12 after six innings. 

Nieves drew a walk to open the seventh inning. McDaniel hit a single. Rindt scored a run on an RBI single. Khoury drew a walk before Russell Wilkey scored a run on a sacrifice fly. With two outs, Baylor Wilkey gave Junction City the lead with a two-run RBI double. Addison scored another run with an RBI single.

Butler walked a batter to open the bottom of the seventh. Washburn Rural scored on an RBI double. Senior Jensen Porter replaced Butler on the mound before allowing a single. Porter walked a batter before Washburn Rural tied the game on a fielder's choice play. Junction City forced two outs to send the game to extra innings.

The game was tied 14-14 entering the eighth inning.

Junction City hit into two outs to start the eighth. Rindt hit a single before Khoury grounded out. 

Porter hit his first batter with a pitch. With one out, Porter walked another batter. Washburn Rural secured the walk-off with with an RBI single.

Junction City lost by a score of 14-15.

Through a little over five innings of work, Kell allowed 11 runs on 12 hits while striking out three batters. In a little under an inning of work, Butler allowed three runs on two hits. In a little over an inning of work, Porter allowed one run on two hits.

Junction City recorded 14 hits in the second game. Russell Wilkey finished with two hits and four RBIs. Rindt recorded two hits and two RBIs. Wiegand, Khoury, and Clark finished with two hits and one RBI apiece. Baylor Wilkey recorded one hit and two RBIs. Addison and McDaniel recorded one hit and one RBI apiece. Nieves finished with one hit. 

Junction City will be back in action May 3, when it will host Highland Park High School at Rathert Stadium in Junction City.
