The Junction City Blue Jays basketball teams traveled to southwest Kansas Friday to open their 2019-20 campaign against Dodge City.

Junction City Lady Blue Jays struggled from the beginning with the Lady Red Demons jumping out on a 23-0 run on their way to a 25-4 lead after the first frame.

The Lady Blue Jays calmed down and found some rhythm in the second adding 11 points to the scoreboard in the process.

Dodge City proved too much for the ladies as they fell to the host team 69-22.

The Blue Jays took control of the scoreboard in the second game of the night.

Dodge City led twice in the game, early in the first quarter, before the Blue Jays dominated both sides of the court.

Up 23-17 after one, the Blue Jays rolled to the 37-21 lead at the half.

Sophomore Howard Johnson led the Blue Jays on the night with a team high 16 points on the way to the 73-42 road victory.

The teams are at home next week at they face Great Bend Tuesday and Topeka High School Friday at Shenk Gymnasium.

Junction City closes out their 2019 half Dec. 17 on the road in Manhattan.
