The Junction City Greco-Freestyle Wrestling Club participated in the Kansas State Tournament in Hutchinson June 1, and finished the weekend with some state champions.
In the Greco kids, age 14 and under, the team took third place. State champions for Greco included Tucker Cell in the 102-pound class and Patrick Foxworth in the 110-pound class.
The 14-and-under kids placed third in Freestyle. Julianna Villanueva was the lone girls state champion for her age group in freestyle for JC, winning the 76- 85-pound weight class. For the boys, Keyen Koochel was the winner of the 10-and-under group at 59 pounds, Tucker Cell won in the 14-and-under group at 102 pounds and Jaime Villanueva won in the 14-and-under group at 125 pounds.
June 2 featured the cadet and junior groups, which (14-18 years old). The team finished in fourth place for Greco out of 103 teams. State champions included Hunter Taylor in the 94-pound group for the cadets and C.J. Neuman in the 145-pound group of cadets. The team finished in ninth place in freestyle. Hunter Taylor was a state champion for the cadets at 94 pounds, and Elisa Robinson won in the 181-pound junior division.
