JC's 164th birthday

Residents gathered Thursday to mark the founding of Junction City and the unveiling of a new statue honoring that historic occasion. The new piece, the fifth in a series, is in front of Central National Bank on Washington Street. Thursday was the city’s 164th birthday. It was incorporated Feb. 9, 1859.

Junction City Main Street thanked Central National Bank and the Rolfs family for sponsoring the base in honor of Ed J. and Eunice Rolfs; Kansas Creative Arts Institute and National Endowment for the Arts for the support of muralist Chase Hunter; K-State Salina Composite Club and Professor Doug Zerr for the fabrication of the JC statues; Richard Carr for the masonry; Tracy with C’s Construction for the cement work and statue installation; and the city of Junction City. The next statue unveiling will be Aprill 22 near Bella’s restaurant.
