The supernatural thriller film “The Black Phone,” released on the 24th, is based on a book of the same name by author Joe Hill. Hill’s real name is Joe King, and he’s the son of horror writer Stephen King.

Religious centered movies are really hit or miss with me. There are some out there that are excellent. But religious movies often strike me as artificial. Collectively, I think relatability is a key element to a good religion-based film.

Back in 2019, I was a bit surprised to find that the video game-based kids movie, "Sonic the Hedgehog," turned out to be overall an entertaining film. That’s largely due to my familiarity with the game it’s based on. Films based on games tend to be hit or miss. It's not a perfect movie, but it doesn't have to be.

In the latest Batman film, “The Batman,” released March 4, we get a detective superhero, played this time by Robert Pattinson and directed by Matt Reeves. Unlike previous movies, the audience is expected to know Batman’s back story, as it’s not depicted in the story.

The first thing that I realized I had forgotten about the movie-going experience were the ads. Don’t get me wrong, I like a trailer or three as much as the next guy. In fact, considering it had more than year since my last regular movie going experience, I was looking forward to A FEW coming…

My introduction to actor Michael B. Jordan was the 2013 movie Fruitvale Station about the tragic true story of 22-year old Oscar Grant III who was fatally shot in Oakland, Calif. by a BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) police officer in 2009. It was a big role to fill. When I watched Fruitvale St…

Two Fridays ago, Netflix released the Sony animated comedy The Mitchells vs. the Machines, a movie about your average, everyday, flawed family led by college-bound teenager Katie Mitchell (voiced by Broad City’s Abbi Jacobson), an aspiring filmmaker who, along with her parents, Rick (Eastbou…

It’s almost cliche to mention how sequels are rarely equal or better than their predecessors. They don’t necessarily need to be better. Sequels just need to continue telling the story audiences left off with in part one, if there’s actually more to the story to tell. They need to at least co…
