Oktoberfest participators started their day on Saturday with the Volksmarch. The 5 and 13K non-competitive started downtown and stretched all of the way to the new Junction City High School.
Several Fort Riley soldiers compete in the tradtional Oktoberfest contest of Hammerschlagen. Contestants try to hammer nails fully into a stump on one continuous swing. Whoever hammers their nail into the stump in the least amount of whacks is the winner.
Fort Riley soldiers present the colors Saturday afternoon while the national anthem plays at the intersectino of 7th Street and North Franklin Street.
